For almost 20 years, Kelly O’Connor (b. 1982) has employed an inventive approach to collage and site-specific installation, challenging utopian ideals of Western folklore and pop culture. She is represented by David Shelton Gallery in Houston, TX. Her work is included in esteemed public collections such as the McNay Art Museum and the Ford Foundation.
Her work has been featured in New American Painting (2013) as well as other notable publications such as Cultured Magazine and Luxe Magazine.
O’Connor constructs mosaic-like abstractions within dream-like environments often resulting in a fragmented narrative. Described as surreal and psychedelic, the artist’s hand juxtaposes technicolor papers sampled from a variety of sources including record covers and scrapbooking paper against images with patina from the past.
Much of O’Connor’s work aims to expose the realities behind these facades and fabricated environments, impacting our collective psyche.
In an effort to make Kelly's artwork accessible to a wider market XOKO by Kelly O'Connor was created. We believe everyone should be able to afford unique and contemporary artwork for their home!
